Miss Elizabeth Golden,

My dear friend: I was very much surprised when I received you letter for I no more expected to hear from you than I did to hear it thunder; but was very glad indeed to find our friendship had not dissolved.  At Holland I heard you was suffering from a felon, but did not know they lasted so long.  Was very sorry for you for I believe I can sympathize with you somewhat for I dropped a block of wood on my finger and it is just getting well.  I expected to lose the nail.  But of course you suffered a great deal more than I did.

I suppose you are teaching now.  Do you like your school: I am having vacation now but hardly know what to do with myself.  And am to have three weeks.  We had a social and raised money enough to buy a flag.  Am going to Grand Rapids this week to get it.

Have you joined any Reading Circle?  I wanted to but don’t know as I can.

Well Mr. Coburn secured the coveted position after all.  What do you think about it?

I received a letter from Mary the other day.  She said “our gang” was all at C’Ville fair but me. Now I very sorry I wasn’t there.  For it would seem like a great treat to see all you girls again and have “fun” just like we did at Holland.  I shall always think of that as one of the happy times of my life.

Mae and Maude are teaching across the river I hear.  I think if thy were a little more friendly it would seem much more pleasant to them.  Do you see Ella very often?  I wish I lived where I could see your girls once in two or three weeks if not oftener.  For there are few girls that I care for around here.  In fact there are few.  Only one besides myself right here and some in Conklin.  I hardly waxxx to know.

Did you get tha cyclopedia of the agent that has been selling it through this Co?  I took it and have received five volumes.  Like it very much and think it will be a great help.

I can write with this pen no longer so will try another or I fear you will not be able to read this at all.

The wind sounds like winter today and it is very cold.  My! I dread to think of cold weather coming.  Will you board at home this winter?  Who is teaching your school at Dennison this year.

Now I hope you will not wait as long as you did before but write soon.

Your loving friend

Hattie E. Wright
