Dear bed fellow,

Your letter rec’d and you bet I was tea-kettled.  Now here I go Mary and I had a dandy supper I will tell you what we had, “namly” potato soup, tomatoes cooked, cabbage, celery, onions, pickles and others to numerous to mention.  Don’t you wish you were here?  Ask Mart if he don’t:

The Berlin High School will give a social at the Brick hall to which you are invited.  Tell everyone you see and lots you don’t see.  And be sure and come and have every body else come.  We have a football now.  It is a dandy.  I go out and play with the boys.  I was standing on the steps up to school and the ball came rolling up near me so I give it a rattling old kick & sent it across the line.  Some of the boys that got beat were awfully mad while those I helped wanted me to play all the time.

Say, if you can’t read this, send it back.

Oh. I forgot.  I am going to deliver a stump speech tomorrow night down to the schoolhouse.  My class go back to school every Thursday night where we practice writing and have a debate.  Our subject this week is “The evil effect of slavery.”

Well Lirrie I have a new brother, but lost my sister in the bargain.  That is what I was bellering for at school.  You know I promised to tell you.  They will be to our house for about three weeks then the will set up shanty of their own.  We had a devil of a time up to our house when she was married.  There was about 85 there.  O I had a lovely time waiting on tables (there was only seven) and washing dishes.  The Lisbon band was there & played lots.  We danced out on the lawn until dark then went into the house and danced.  Then we wound up by having a shiveree (I guess that the way to spell it).  And by Pa ordering them out of the yard.  And the went like little men.  You see the boys up there are all afraid of Pa.

I mailed ten invitations to day for our Social.  Say you want to be sure & come.  Tell Mart I didn’t write his if my name is to it.  Cleve wrote it.  Also tell him that Maggie will be there.

We have a lovely flag.  Got it with our fair money.  We had it up yesterday and to day on account of Mrs. Harrison’s death.  We also got a picture with some of the fair money.

How do you like teaching and do you drive yet.  Gustas School will be out soon.

I came to Berlin last Saturday eve to hear our next Congressman Mr. Belknap speak.  It was fine.  Nell Hermance was there.  Oh by the way, I got a letter from Nell.  She & I were quite chummie Thursday of the fair.  I thought you were coming to the Berlin fair one day.  You’re a dandy.

I wanted to go but couldn’t make a mash.  O say Ralph H. took Cleve and I up on the grand stand.  What you dink on dot?  We also waited on tables in the dinning hall.  It’s more fun then a box of monkeys.

I had a cousin visiting me from Detroit last week.  And the week after the fair I had a cousin come way out here from Detroit on a safty.  Isn’t that great!

Mary thinks I aught to run out of news soon so I’ll stop for you wont be able to read it anyway.  Write Soon.

Yours Lovingly

Lauretta

You see that big blob on the envelope.  Well Mary did that.
