My Dearest Friend

I received your welcome letter last Wednesday night I think it was a long time coming I began to think you had eloped with some other girls fellow or you had forgotten that I existed but I am still on earth although I have changed my headquarters since I wrote before I moved to the Heights to board two weeks ago yesterday it is the dreariest place on earth but we get lots of fresh air up here last Thursday night the wind blew the whole second story of Kelly Bros Factory in.  Some of it went clear down through the first floor.  It was a solid brick wall and one of the largest factories in the Heights.  It also racked our Hotel so the people are going to move out.  I thought for awhile our boarding house was going to blow over it rocked just like a cradle and the same time the rain was coming down in sheets it was the worst night I ever saw, do they have any thing like that in Berlin!  It is trying to snow here to day I am going down in a little while and see what is going on there.  I never got so lonesome anywhere in my life as I have since I came up here.  I wish you would write a little oftener in the future.  Well Lizzie I don’t think of any more to say and it is so cold here I am almost friz so I will bid you Good By hoping to hear from you soon Yours
