My Dearest Lizzie I thought I would write a letter this evening as I am kind of lonesome and perhaps you are a little bit that way yourself.  If you are, you know how to sympathize with me.  I got back here Monday noon and went to work at one o’clock.  I suppose you are enjoying school as ever.

I saw Mary Sunday night.  She said you and she were going to Gd. Rapids Saturday to spend Sunday.  I hope you will have a good time.  I went to the party last Saturday night at the Hamilton House.  It was the poorest excuse for a party I have seen in a long while. It made me extremely weary.  It was worse than a little children’s party (although all the Bloods were there).  I stayed till about ten o’clock and went home with Cassy and Miss Hattie Cleland, a young lady visiting to Clelands from New York State.  I saw Jennie Storrs at the party she seemed quite glad to see me but I couldn’t return the compliment.  I got disgusted and went and sat down in a corner and thought I would keep my face shut a little while and she came over to ask me what made me so quiet.  I told her I was tired of talking and she said she was too and she would like to go home if she had any company but I didn’t take the hint and she soon left me thinking I wasn’t very good natured.

I know this will make you tired when you read it as you don’t like to hear such stuff (I don’t either) but it shows how two faced some people can be.  How is the weather in Berlin?  It is awfully cold here.  I was just reading in the Grand Rapids paper that we have a Republican congressman again.

Well My Dearest, I will have to close for this time hoping to hear from you soon.  I am as ever your Sincere Friend.

Please excuse these blots.  I don’t write enough to keep my hand in.  Don’t say anything about what I have said about our friend.  Perhaps I can think of something else to say next time.  Good by. Let.

Miss Lizzie Golden,

My Dear Friend, I thought I would answer your letter tonight not having anything else to do.  I didn’t feel the least bit cranky the last time I wrote although it might have sounded so.  I only wanted you to know I would like to hear from you oftener.  I would have written sooner this time but I didn’t know but I would be home this week.  We are out of one kind of trimming up to the shop and I expected to get layed off.  They layed one man off to day.  I may be home Saturday night if the trimming don’t come but if it does I don’t think I can come next week to the fair.  You see they have it all their own way here but I don’t want to disappoint them for they are doing pretty well by me now.  I got a raise in my wages a couple of weeks ago.  I am getting as much as the best of them now.

Has Kate got well yet?  I was sorry to hear she was sick.  How long is she going to stay east .  Is Mary staying up town with you yet?  I have been awful low this week.  I sprained my ankle last Saturday night coming down stairs at the shop.  I suppose you are making great calculations on the fair.  Which dance do you think will get the crowd?  It is a long time since I have danced any.  I hope I will be there to take in the fair dance.

How is school going this time?  Have they got a large school?  Well Lizzie, I cant think of any more to write.  There is no news but perhaps you can write me some news if you feel good natured enough.  I should liked to have kissed you while you were writing that last letter.  I know you must have looked sweet.  Well I have forgotten all about that and trust you have so I will bid Good By for this time hoping to hear from you soon

As Ever Your True friend
