Dear Friend

I at last made up my mind to write to you once more and see if you would answer this time.

Well how are you and how have you been spending the past year.  I have had a pretty good time this summer but not as good a time as I had last winter.  I never had a better time.  Got acquainted with people from all over, as so many came from different states to go to school.  I went about 7 mos. and then stopped would of finished my course in 8 mos. But ma was taken sick so I could not go.  I am talking of going in the fall again.

When are you coming to see me don’t you ever come to Grand Rapids  I should think you could come up soon and stay a week before you go to school again.  I don’t have much to do now and we could go all around and have a good time.  Come some time this week and stay over Sunday so we can go to the park and have a good time.  let me know if you can come and I will meet you any day at the depot.  I will have lots to tell you.  If you come and you can come as well as not.

Mary Malone has been up a quite a few times since we lived here.  she was here the 4th.  I seen her at North Park.  Where did you spend your 4th.  And did you have a good time.  I went to the dance at the park the third and was so tired the 4th could hardly move.

Well how did you like teaching school.  I suppose your liked it real well.  I used to think I would like teaching but don’t know as I would now.  Minnie is going to teach this fall again I guess in the French district.  All the folks have gone to North Park only me and I am lonesome.  Sarah and a lot of girls went on a picnic and Minnie went out on the new boat.  We had a party here, a week ago last night and had a great time.  It was a surprise on Ed, all young folks.

Well I can’t think of any more to write. xx I guess I will close hoping to hear from you soon and that you will surly come this week as I know you can and will be disappointed if you don’t.  I remain Ever Your Friend

“Mary Malone”: Lizzie’s dad, Patrick Golden, had two sisters, Mary Golden and Catherine Golden.  Mary Golden married Thomas Malone and Catherine Golden married Patrick Malone.  Thomas and Patrick were brothers.  Mary Golden and Thomas Malone had a daughter named Mary.  Catherine Golden and Patrick Malone also had a daughter named Mary.  Mary Malone of Mary and Thomas was born about 1852.  Mary Malone of Catherine and Patrick was born about 1872.  This Mary Malone would have been a year older than Lizzie.
