Dear Friend Lizzie:

As I had a few minutes to spare I thought I would write you a few lines to see how all the folks are in the booming city of Dennison.  Haven’t heard from anyone there in a long while.

I suppose you wonder how I came to be here.  Well, I am holding down the night job here.  Am working for four roads.  The B&WM, B&EI, II&I Ry and L.N.A & B.  They have a union depot here.  It is just a junction of these roads.  As to the town, all there is to it is two depots, 2 hotels, a large pumping station to furnish engines with water.  The live stock consists of 1 dog, no cats, 4 chickens, 1 pig and a lot of cows.  Only two hotels are the only houses here.  About as big as Dennison, Mich.  But there are nine railroads though and that makes up for the lack of anything else.  The only good thing that can be said of the place is that you can’t spend a cent.  Have to save all your money.

The nearest town is fifteen miles and if you want a chew of gum you will have to go there to get it.  One good thing is that you don’t have to pay for riding on the cars.  That is as long as you are a railroad man.

I went to Brazil Ind. yesterday and went all through the big coal mines there.  Rode on an engine all the way, 150 miles from here and had a fine time.  Am going there again in a few days.  I can get lots of curiosities there in the mines and if you like will send you some.

I hope you will excuse the liberty I take in writing to you but we are old friends anyway and when one is so far from home it kind of does one good to hear from old friends.  So I want you to be sure and answer this.  I am kept pretty busy here all the time.  Keep me operating from 8 PM to 6 AM every night.  I have a great many car reports and other work so it is pretty hard to find time in business hours for anything else.  Tell Will I will write to him in a few nights.

Well, it is half past four now and I will have a train crew in here in a few minutes after their orders and then there will be no more rest for the weary (me) till I get them out again.  So I guess I will have to close now.  Be sure and answer at once if you will and of course you will.

Give my love to Miss C. Griffin please, if she will accept, and say hello to the rest of the folks for me.  Hoping to hear from you very soon.

I am Yours Very Truly
