Along Brandy Creek

The two children and their parents left the house soon after breakfast.  Swirls of snowflakes filled the air as they moved down the hill and out onto the snow covered field.  The quiet of the woods in front of them held their attention as they approached the shelter of the hardwoods and scattering of spruce and pine.  The Dad carried a small handsaw.  The annual search for that just right Christmas tree was on.

The four of them would stop at this one, then that one, back again to that other pretty good looking spruce tree.  Then they turned their backs on all of them and moved on.  None were quite appropriate for that usual spot by the bay window back in the living room at the house.  Four opinions expressed at the finding of each new possibility made the choosing of the perfect tree a difficult job.

They all walked a long way that morning.  Finally, way down at the West end of the woods on the far side of Brandy Creek, there it was!  The little girl stood there next to that tree explaining to her Mom, with lots of hand gestures, exactly why that tree was "just the right one".  It didn't take a lot more convincing all around before the lone small spruce was being dragged through the snow in the direction of home.

It wasn't long before the decorations were out of the attic and on the tree, topped of by the golden angle that Aunt Connie had sent up from Texas a few years back.  There was no doubt in anyone's mind that it was going to be one fine Christmas here on the farm this year.
