Brown's Mill*

 

Some still call

the feed mill there

Brown's.

Pushed against

abandoned rails

that lead no-

where and linger

in from times

past beyond

memories of

those living in

the tiny

town quiet

and safe

for want not

of change

like the silos

of grain standing

tall against

the wind

and time.

Their contents

of seeds

as in years past

change each harvest

season but remain

the same

and the country-

side goes on

between horizons

reminiscent

of times

of Brown.

 

*Known as Groenink's Elevator and Hardware in Nunica since the early 1970s.
