Along Brandy Creek

By Jim Fitzpatrick

The Coopersville Observer  June 16, 2014 - - No. 131

Did you ever walk along

an isolated small creek with

clouds overhead hanging

way too low it seems with

a heavy mist filling

the air while all

of nature's things

seem not to care

A solitary cottontail rabbit

crouches low in the thicket

wondering why you are

in such a rush and

the passing fox in

the mud has left his track

a promise that someday

soon he will be back

A whoosh from above then

you suddenly take notice of

wild turkeys coming to roost in

the night they don't fear but

you wonder about the doe and

fawn you saw the other day

maybe in the brush patch

along the creek they stay

The evening light floods in

it is time to turn back

the trail goes on but

another day you will go there

the weather may change

the wind has gone northwest

sunshine or rain

who is to say what is best
