Along Brandy Creek

The Coopersville Observer  March 20, 2006- - No. 69

The wind is blowing the rain in on the East porch tonight.  Dog Jingles is asleep on the rug just inside the back door.  She is curled into a ball of fur that appears to have no beginning or end.  The wet night air moans a low grown as it passes over the chimney top.  Large drops of moisture slap against the kitchen window pains.  The Mom and kids are already asleep on the second floor.  Monday morning coming around means school for the two young ones.  The weekend was a busy one; long days back in the woods collecting sap, boiling it down into maple syrup.

The Dad is awake and alert to the changing weather. He's sitting at the kitchen table with writing paper in front of him, pencil in hand; still and listening.  Kerri and Becki, down at the Coopersville Observer office, are expecting the usual biweekly story from Along Brandy Creek - first thing in the morning!  The low hanging lamp over the dinner table is the only light on in the house.  The wind is picking up and gusting a good one now and then.  The down pour is noisy as it beats against the outside of the house.  Thunder can be heard far off to the South.  And then a flash of lightning.  What will this fellow write about this time around?  Could it be that he has run out of stories?
