Rock River, June 7, 1890

Dear Cousin,

I received your welcome letter tonight and was glad to here from you but sorry to here that Ma is sick and having such a hard time of it.  You said you supposed it would break me all up.  Well, Lizzie, it made me feel awful bad to them that I am so far away and she is so sick and none of them would write to me to let me now how she is.

I would write to some of them to find out but I am afraid they would answer it.  For before I came up here I wrote to Jack and he never answered it.  So I want you to answer this as soon as you get it and let me know how Ma is.  Now Lizzie I want you to tell me just how she is.  For if she is awful sick and wants me to go and see her I would go if I had to walk but if she is not dangerous I do not want to go for it will cost me a good deal and I haven’t got any money to spare now.

Lizzie you don’t know how glad I was when I got your letter for some times I feel as if I didn’t have a friend in the whole world.  Now Lizzie be sure and answer this as soon as you get it and tell Mary Ann I will write to her the next time for I am pretty down hearted tonight. For I won’t keep the tears from dropping on this paper.

Good By

From your

Cousin Tom

Write soon.  You can tell Ma that I forgive them for everything they said to me and if we ever can be catholic we will for now is just as conscious to be a catholic more than I am.
