Miss Lizzie Golden

Dear Friend

As I feel rather lonesome tonight and not much to do, I thought I would confine myself with the peace for a few moments by writing to you.

Well Lizzie, Xmas has gone and all its bounties for this year and I suppose it was a merry one for you. (hope so at least)

As for me I’ve nothing to boast of, excepting that I was sick all day and the next following.  But am better now.  Although I have a terrible cold and it has settled on my lungs I guess, for at times I can scarcely breathe.   Well hoping that I will be able to go back to school when it commences, I will drop this subject and proceed with something else.

Well Lizzie, I suppose you are looking and calculating for a Happy New Year which is almost here.  And in your mind have made resolutions – not to be broke for the commencement of the year, I suppose.

You are going N. Y. night (of course) and I hope will have a time to be long remembered by you on account of its enjoyment.  That is the most I have to wish.

As I did not go to Ella’s on Christmas, I really would like to go New Years. (wish if I do that you could be there)  Though I had it all pictured in my mind that you were there Xmas and new having such a nice time while I was at home feeling somewhat blue.

You needn’t be surprised at all if you see Ella and I there N.Y.s night.  I’m not particular and I guess Ella is not and if I go to her place and we get a middling fair chance, why of course, we’ll not hesitate but except the offer.  If we could only be to the room now I hardly think we’d get the chance to stay at home if we wanted to ever so bad.  For I know I never came as near going to any place and then not as I did once this fall when there was just such an occasion in town.  And you know these are holidays and even suppose those of Manulona are aware of it and of course will be here to spend N.Y.s with Father, Mother, Brother and Sister, etc.

Oh Lizzie, Don’t think I’m senseless but how I w’d like to see you girls tonight.  It seems like a month since I’ve been home.  But probably we will all be together this time next Monday night.

I don’t know now as I’ll go down Sunday night.  Can’t say.  I suppose Prof. Baldwin is possibly having an enjoying time since he has been home.  I bet he will dislike to come back.  I know I should.

Well Lizzie, as I think I hear you saying, You’ve written plenty for this time so sign your name and seal this and then write again sometime.  I think I’d better. So La da da for this time.

Ever Yours,

Miss Mary

(Love to Katie and Mary)

Happy New Year to all
