Trout Creek, Nov 13, 1889

My Dear Friend Lizzie,

As I have a streak of writing, I will try and write you a little nonsense with the rest.  I got a letter from Cassie last Thursday and she said she had been down to your house and Sunday you all went to Uncle Denis and you all had a splendid time and she said she went to Mass.  I am glad and I hope she will go as often as she can.  Cassie says she never had such good friends as you folks are to her.  I think her dress is very pretty and it must look awful nice made up.  She said she did not wear it.  I suppose she is too choice of it to wear it very often.  Well Lizzie, I suppose you girls are learning lots of new things this winter.

I see by the paper your teacher has changed some of the books and Cassie wrote she had to have new books.  I heard Lester went to school.  Now Lizzie, I don’t want you to spend too much time casting shy glances around the room.  I want you to study your lessons.  I reckoned when I left you would be flirting with my boy.  Well I will se to things when I come home.  ha ha.  Oh I would like to see you.  Won’t we have a good time.  You have got to come and stay a week at a time

I suppose the choir is prospering finely.  How I would like to go and hear it.  They have a lovely Cathedral in Marquette.  When we go home I want to go inside.  As we stay with a Catholic lady, I shall have a chance to go.  It is the loveliest building I ever saw and they say it is just as nice inside.  I suppose Mass will be celebrated in Berlin Christmas as it always is.  Give my respects to Father Caldwell, when you see him and Minnie Brown has moved to Detroit.  Well she will be near little Dennie.  She can see him often.  It will be nice for both of them.  Does Maggie Hughes live in the Grand. Rapids yet?  I am very sorry for Julia Lofties.  I hope she is better.  Mrs. Lofties has more than her share of sickness.  I must write Nora and will close hoping to hear from you soon and all the news you can scare up.

That was awful about Martin Walch getting burned out.  Will he build another store?  I suppose he did not save scarcely anything.  It seems as though Spring Lake and Grand Haven were doomed.  It must have been awful to see the fire.  I hope it will not come to Coopersville.  Is Nora and Mary Frances going to school at Coopersville this winter?  Well I have written enough nonsense this time and will close by saying we will have some fun when we meet.  Good bye dear.

Lizzie, write soon.  Love to all from your old tease, Lida
