Grandma Lizzie’s Letters

Grandma Lizzie was born Elizabeth Agnes Golden on April 15, 1873 in Dennison (Ottawa County), Michigan.  She married my grandfather (William Henry Fitzpatrick) in November 1897.  Grandma Lizzie died on May 20, 1943.

Before she married my grandfather she was a school teacher and taught in a number of the local one room schools.

As a young woman she corresponded with friends and family through the mail.  She saved a lot of those letters and kept them in a small wooden box.  The following are those letters.

The box appears to be a box that originally contained a doll.

Lizzie’s Letters were “scanned in” over a number of months.  The letters were then printed and assembled in 3-ring binders.  There are seven binders, and each binder contains 30 to 45 letters.  The tables below list the “Book” or 3-ring binder that is used to archive each of Grandma Lizzie’s letters.

The earliest letter was written when Lizzie was 10 years old and the last letter was written when she was 27.

You can view a high resolution version of any of Grandma Lizzie’s letters by clicking on the graphics displayed on the pages of this website.

Lizzie’s Letters can be displayed chronologically or you can group them by  the person that wrote the letter.
