The Building: |
|
Our Hanchett School House was built in 1900. There was an older building, but the construction date of that school house is unknown. The 1900 building was purchased by Lyle and Helen Hanchett in 1961 for $1,025.00. The 1900 school house is presently owned and used as a home by George Whipple, 16760 88th Avenue. |

The land was leased from Lyle Hanchett’s grandfather, Reuben B. Hanchett. When the lease ran out, Lyle’s father, Homer Hanchett gave a piece of land for the present building. |

The old school (former) school was moved to the Arthur Hillard farm next door east, and was used for a barn. |
|
|
|
Lyle did the sweeping and built fires for years. |
|
|
|
Old minutes show the school voted to establish a library in 1894. |
