Approximately 80 people attended the second Hanchett School reunion at the Crockery Township hall on Saturday, September 26, 2009.
The festivities began around 4 pm. Everyone wore name tags which helped renew old acquaintances. A table with attractive munchies prepared by Pat Sommers was enjoyed by all. Everyone enjoyed looking at the old school book records and seeing their names displayed on the many pages.
At 6 o’clock everyone enjoyed barbeques, potato salad, baked beans and tasty salads. After the meal Larry VanDussen turned the speaker over to anyone who wanted to speak. Ray Nelson told of his experiences, Rhea Mae Hubbel told of the winter fun on the icy hill, Marilyn McNitt related the funny instances of school days, Nancy Kennedy Torno, teacher in the 50’s was happy to see many of her students, Dick Holman played music on his guitar, Shirley Cunningham read a poem about growing old, and Jack Cooke told of living in the old Wahbe Cark, a dance hall on Cleveland about ½ mile east of the school. We were serenaded with music from Jo Ann Langlois Windberg, Donna Langlois Carlston and Bill Langlois. Dale Venema joined the three musicians, told stories of his childhood, strummed the guitar and sang about the “Crockery Creek Crossing.”
We all enjoyed the attractive desserts prepared by Cindy Fitzpatrick and look forward to returning for another reunion in two years.
The committee members have recently updated the mailing list that will be used to send out invitations for the 2011 Hanchett School Reunion. If you have moved and don’t think we have your current address please e-mail your new mailing address to hanchett@nunica.com. |
